City officials said that 30 new parking meters along the west side of High Street will go into service on Monday.
The meters are located between Goodale Street and Mound Street.
The new meters are the first of 120 parking meters that will be installed on both sides of High Street between Goodale and Mound streets by the summer of 2013, weather permitting.
“More convenient parking will make shops and restaurants along High Street more accessible and downtown more active and vibrant,” said Mayor Michael B. Coleman in a news release. “Downtown will become more walkable for visitors because they can park closer to destinations on or near High Street.”
Parking at meters on the west side of High Street between Goodale Street and Mound Street will be prohibited weekdays between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., allowing COTA buses to travel curb lanes free of parked vehicles to drop-off and pick up riders. The same parking restrictions will apply to meters that will be installed along the east side of High Street.
All 120 of the new parking meters on High Street will be 3 hours and will be the new smart meters that accept credit and debit cards.
