Whitehall-Area Businesses On Alert Amid Rash Of Armed Robberies

UPDATED: Thursday November 15, 2012 8:03 AM

Businesses are on alert after a rash of armed robberies within miles of each other.

Three robberies occurred in the Whitehall area, near Main Street and Hamilton Road, in the last two days.

In all three cases, the robbers walked into the businesses with a weapon drawn.

When Shawn Goeglein heard the door open at Waterbeds ‘N Stuff, along South Hamilton Road, he thought it was just another customer.

However, he soon found out the man had something else on his mind.

“When he got to this point, that’s when he actually chambered the gun,” Goeglein said.

Goeglein said that the man demanded money.

“As soon as I put the money in the bag he ran out the front door,” Goeglein said. “He knew what he wanted.”

Goeglein said that he believed the thief had been in the store before because he walked directly to the register.

“It was really intense,” Goeglein said.

A few hours earlier, Columbus police said that two suspects walked into a Pizza Hut restaurant, located along East Main Street, and robbed a worker at gunpoint.

On Monday, Whitehall police said an armed robber attempted to rob the Asian Supermarket and Gifts, located along East Main Street. The robber got away when he was unable to open the register.

Investigators were unsure if the robberies were connected.
