A non-profit will hand over some life-changing friends on Friday.
Twelve dogs will graduate the Canine Companions for Independence programs. They will go home with people who have physical disabilities free of charge.
The dogs have been training for nearly two years and know up to 40 commands, including opening doors and turning on lights.
Lisa Lander is one of the lucky recipients. She said that her dog will do more than just increase her physical independence.
“Just have him reduce the anxiety of going out in public by myself,” she said. “I'm not going to be by myself ever again because I'm going to have Tilden. So people will be more interested in seeing what he is doing rather than watching how I do things.”
Four veterans are among the recipients. The graduation ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at the Dublin Recreation Center.
