Police Bust Alleged Catalytic Converter Thief

Police said that they caught a man who allegedly cut a hole in a fence at an auto recycling company to steal car parts.

According to police, the burglar was trying to steal catalytic converters to trade for cash.

The alleged theft occurred in the 800 block of Marion Road in south Columbus overnight Wednesday.

Police said that they thought the man cut a hole in a fence to gain access to the Columbus Auto Recycling Company.

A police helicopter searched for a second person in connection with the burglary, but was not able to find anyone.

Police said that catalytic converters contain three types of metals that can be sold for about $100 each on the black market.

Police arrested one person whose name was not immediately released.
