Kevin J. Nash, 24, posted bond Wednesday afternoon after authorities say he was caught in an undercover sting.
Nash allegedly tried to meet a 14-year-old male for sex Tuesday afternoon, but it turned out to be an undercover agent.
Detectives said the case started after a routine check of the internet.
"Mr. Nash posted an ad on a social networking site. One of our investigators saw the ad. In the ad, Nash indicated he was looking to have a sexual encounter with a young person. We responded to the ad, posing as a juvenile," said Sgt. Dan Johnson of the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. "He solicited our investigator to engage in a sex act and to meet in person to engage in that sex act."
Detectives said Nash was arrested when he showed up at the meeting place with several items, including condoms.
This is not the first time Nash has been in trouble with the law for this type of crime.
Court and police records show Nash was charged five years ago with approaching a 14-year-old boy through a chat room.
The victim's parents in that case intercepted those conversations and contacted police.
Police said Nash told the victim he had seen a picture of him, "wanted to kiss" him, "lay down in the grass" with him and if he had ever "seen another boy naked."
Records show Nash met the boy behind his Pickerington home.
The 14-year-old said Nash hugged him and then "kissed him with an open mouth" for about ten seconds.
Nash was then an Ohio State student, and he was later arrested and charged with importuning and child endangering, both felonies.
Nash later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of menacing by stalking. He served 30 days in jail and was put on three years probation.
WBNS-10TV talked to the mother of the victim of that first incident, who said the encounter robbed her son of his childhood and forced him to get counseling.
The victim's mom said she thinks Nash should be labeled a sex offender, and she hopes he gets help.
For now, authorities said they will contact the U.S. Attorney's office to pursue possible repeat offender charges.
Nash was arraigned Wednesday morning on a charge of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
