Budget cuts are likely after voters turned down two fire levies.
Ultimately 50.3 percent of voters in Liberty Township and the City of Powell said no to the replacement 5-year, 6.6 mill levy and increase.
Fire officials had said that if voters rejected the levy request, jobs would be cut and a fire station could be forced to close. Only 102 votes decided the race.
In Orange Township, a slightly larger gap existed between those who voted for and those who voted against the department's 7.8 mill levy request.
Orange Township officials said that the department has a carryover that could only cover expenses for the first three months of next year. The decision came down to 473 votes with 51.7 percent of voters rejecting the levy request.
Township officials voted on Wednesday to place a 7.5-mill levy on the special February ballot.
The chairman of the board said that the decreased levy request would mean about $300,000 less annually. He said that the cuts would be made immediately to training and maintenance.
