Robert Radcliff is continuing a long family legacy by replacing his father as sheriff of central Ohio's Pickaway County.
The 50-year-old Radcliff was elected Tuesday in Circleville, taking over for his father Dwight Radcliff, who's been the sheriff in the county of around 56,000 residents since 1965. He is retiring at the end of the year as the longest serving county sheriff in Ohio.
Before that, Robert Radcliff's grandfather served as county sheriff from 1931 to 1960.
Robert Radcliff, a retired sheriff's office lieutenant who got 61 percent of the vote in a race against independent candidate Jason Lawless, said the win was bittersweet because of his dad stepping down.
Circleville is about 40 miles south of Columbus.
