People Trapped In Burning West Side Building

Franklin Township and Columbus firefighters responded to a burning apartment building Monday night where some people were trapped.

Emergency dispatchers confirmed the address as 4150 W. Broad St. Records indicated the apartment building operates under the name West Broad Plaza.

Police closed W. Broad Street at Phillipi Road as crews battled the fire.

Firefighters used a ladder to reach four people and rescue them from the building. They said everyone else safely escaped.

At least 50 people were evacuated due to the fire.

Medics treated five people for smoke inhalation. Three of them were taken to Doctors Hospital for treatment.

COTA buses and the American Red Cross were responding to the scene to help the people displaced by the fire.

The cause was still under investigation.
