Hugging her two-year-old daughter Aidyn was something Capt. Elisabeth Applegate couldn't wait to do.

The other was surprising her nine-year-old daughter Amoreh.

"We like surprises in our family. We're big on surprises,” said Applegate.

Applegate served for five months with the Ohio National Guard in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

She was anxious about the moment she would see Amoreh.

“I am just excited to see her reaction to having me home,” she said.

As the principal of Ecole Kenwood talked to Amoreh,  Applegate quietly walked into the cafeteria.

Amoreh spotted her in a moment that Applegate said reminded her just how priceless time is with her family.

“It is just so unbelievable. It just teaches me that nothing else really matters,” she added.

The two girls are very thankful to spend time with mommy again.
