Police said they located 9-year-old Danielle Ball safe Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m.
Ball, who was reported missing from the Far East side Tuesday night, was found near Gender and Shannon roads.
She had been missing 15 hours.
"You know, you never realize how serious something is until it's in front of your face," said neighbor Brittney Hartrum.
"You expect the worst, but you hope for the best," said neighbor Mariah Downour.
Dozens of police officers swarmed the area overnight searching for Ball, and investigators had no clues about why she left.
Detectives searched cars and knocked on doors around the apartment complex. Search dogs were even brought in.
Once it was daylight, police know there would be more eyes looking for Ball.
She was spotted nearly a mile away from her home, still with her pet ferret.
"A teacher at the World Harvest Church happened to look out a window and saw a child in the bushes," said Ball. "She looked like she had been out in the weather. She was wet and cold.
Police don't suspect foul play, but they are still trying to determine why Ball disappeared.
