Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller was named one of the 16 semifinalists for the 76th Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the year.
Miller has led the Buckeyes to a 9-0 record and a No. 6 national ranking by averaging 291.1 yards of offense per game. He leads the Big Ten and ranks 11th nationally with 121.4 rushing yards per game.
He has completed 112 of 198 passes for 1,527 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Ohio State has had four previous Maxwell Award winners: Howard Cassady (1955), Bob Ferguson (1961), Archie Griffin (1975) and Eddie George (1995).
Junior tackle Johnathan Hankins was named one of 16 semifinalists for the 18th Chuck Bednarik Award for the Outstanding Defensive Player of the year.
Hankins ranks third among Buckeyes with 46 tackles, including three tackles for loss and a quarterback sack. He also blocked a field goal against Purdue. He tied his career high with six solo tackles against the Boilermakers, and earlier this year against UAB he tied his personal best with 10 total tackles.
The Maxwell and Bednarik awards will be announced on Dec. 6 during the Home Depot College Football Awards.
