Logan County Sheriff’s deputies have located a vehicle that could be connected to a hit-and-run crash that killed a teenager.

A passing motorist noticed a body lying in the ditch off the side of state Route 274 north of Rushsylvania this weekend.

Authorities identified the victim as 15-year-old Austin Houser, a sophomore football player at Benjamin Logan High School.

Houser was reported missing at about 12:45 p.m. Friday. School officials said that Houser got off the bus at his home on Thursday after school.

Nearly 200 students gathered on Monday to welcome Houser’s family and take part in a daily prayer before school.

“It’s very traumatic for the community,” Logan County Sheriff Andrew Smith said. “This is a difficult investigation. We have to locate a vehicle and a driver of the vehicle at the time of the crash.”

Officials said that counselors were on hand and a candlelight vigil was planned for 7 p.m. at West Mansfield Park Monday.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the sheriff’s office at 937-592-5731.
