A man faced a number of charges on Wednesday after police said that he led them on a chase in a stolen vehicle while under the influence.
According to the Marion Police Department, an officer was in the area of Jefferson and George streets when he observed a vehicle with no lights on driving in a reckless manner.
The officer tried to pull the driver over, but the driver would not stop. The officer said that he followed the driver for about 10 minutes before the driver attempted to turn right and instead struck a power pole near the 190 block of Bellevue Avenue.
According to police, the man, identified as Jason D. Hayes, got out of the vehicle and did not comply with officer’s requests. Officers said that they were forced to use a Taser on Hayes, 35, who then was taken into custody.
Police said that the vehicle driven by Hayes was stolen from the 600 block of East Farming Street.
Hayes was arrested and charged with felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony OVI, fleeing and eluding and other lesser traffic violations.
