Two people were in custody early Tuesday morning after allegedly attempting to steal and air conditioning unit from a north Columbus business.
According to police, the two people in custody are facing charges, along with the homeowner who spotted the alleged crime.
Police said that undercover officers working in the Linden area heard gunshots at about 2 a.m.
Officers stumbled upon the alleged thieves who were trying to dismantle a rooftop air conditioning unit from a Weber Road beauty salon.
Police said that a neighbor fired shots into the ground to try to scare the alleged thieves.
According to police, the thieves cut wires off another air conditioning unit at another nearby business earlier in the night.
The names of those involved were not immediately released.
