Columbus Police said a 78-year-old man was found beaten to death at 4359 Drycott Street in Columbus Friday afternoon.
Authorities originally believed the man was stabbed, but the investigation revealed that he had been "brutally" beaten by an unknown object.
Police identified the man as Carl Burris.
The death was reported to police just after 4 p.m. on Friday.
Authorities said that Burris' 77-year-old wife, Sharon, discovered him when she arrived at the apartment after a daylong outing. Detectives said the apartment had been ransacked and confirmed that the death was out of a robbery.
Police have no one in custody and have not named any suspects at this time.
