Thousands of documents were released showing a paper trail of alleged and true cases of sexual abuse within the Boy Scouts of America, some in central Ohio.
The 14,500 secret “perversion files” were kept to keep pedophiles out of scouting leadership positions.
10TV found lengthy cases in central Ohio, some with victim statements from young boys.
The mother of one victim spoke with 10TV about the scoutmaster who raped her son nearly 30 years ago.
Barbara Hanson said that the wounds from her son’s attack have yet to heal.
“They didn’t offer him no help,” Hanson said. “No nothing. Right now he is schizophrenic and bipolar from it.”
Hanson’s son was 10-years-old in 1984 when he and several other scouts were invited to Scoutmaster Brian Douglas Speer’s home. She said she could not believe what her son told her about that night.
“When he was talking to me, he was in tears about it,” she said. “I said, ‘Bobby, are you sure? You’re not lying to me?’ He said, ‘No mom, I’m not lying.’”
A police report obtained by 10TV stated that Speer undressed Hanson and then engaged in sexual contact.
“He said that he touched him where he wasn’t supposed to be touched,” Hanson said.
The documents released show 19 known cases in central Ohio.
“I just feel like they’re not protecting the boys,” Hanson said.
One of the documents showed that Speer was sentenced to seven years for what happened to Hanson’s son.
As proof of sexual assaults were released, Barbara Hanson sent a warning to parents.
“Watch them closely,” she said. “Go to the meetings.”
Hanson’s son is currently in jail for rape. His mother says he did not do it. He was scheduled to be released in 2014.
