With less than three weeks to go until Election Day, the heated, presidential debate is taking a new, illegal turn in one Worthington neighborhood.

It's the time of year when people proudly proclaim their political preferences by placing signs in their front yards. However, this past weekend, Dan Deagle got quite a shock.

"I came out Saturday morning to get the paper, and then noticed something is wrong," Deagle said. "I looked around, and all these signs are gone."

Deagle said that all signs missing supported Mitt Romney.

"Draw your own conclusion," Deagle said. "What do you think's going on?"

Perry Township police Chief Robert Oppenheimer said that removing political may seem like a harmless prank, but it is a criminal offense.

"I think it's wrong," resident Karen Ryba said. "It's wrong regardless what political side you're on. Four years ago, our sign was stolen three time."

A Democrat, Ryba said that she wonders at who the thieves could be.

"I can't imagine adults doing it," Ryba said. "I guess it's possible."

Police sent an email alert for homeowners to come forward with incriminating evidence. Police said that one of the victims saw a number of young men driving away in a late model silver Honda Odyssey.

Jeff Hatcher said that he was taking matters into his own hands. With a warning to anyone even thinking of stealing any more signs - especially out of his yard.

"If anyone on the circle needs new signs, I've got ten more to replace them with for you, OK?" Hatcher said.

Police were stepping up patrols, and hope everyone, lets democracy rule - peacefully.

"It's just got to stop because we don't want Romney supporters now coming and taking Obama - tit for tat," Oppenheimer said. "I don't want that - leave the signs alone."

Police said that anyone found guilty of stealing the political signs faces up to six months in jail - and a $1,000 fine.
