A man withdrew his not guilty by reason of insanity plea and pleaded guilty in connection with arson at a Union County church.

Stephen A. Beightler of Philadelphia pleaded guilty to two counts of arson, vandalism and breaking and entering in connection with a car and church fire at the New Horizons Baptist Church, located at 17939 Paver-Barnes Rd.,
in January.

Authorities said that Beightler set a vehicle on fire and drove it into the church, causing $1 million in damage.

Beightler was arrested after authorities found him on a swing set about 100 feet from the burning church.

On Wednesday, Beightler was sentenced to just over four years in prison for the crimes.
