The Franklin County Recorder's Office is warning residents about a company that's sending letters offering home owners the chance to obtain their deeds.
The company charges $89 for the service that can be done via the recorder's office for $3.
The recorder's office said the tactic is not illegal, but it is a waste of money.
The letter appears to be targeting people who have recently purchased new homes, who have a language barrier and who may think they are required to have a copy of their deed.
The letter said you can send in $89 and your deed will arrive within three weeks.
But you can view your records for free at the recorder's office or buy a copy of your deed for $3.
WBNS-10TV tried to talk to the company sending the letters, but the address is a mail drop on High Street.
