Neighbor In Shock After Young Sisters Mauled By Aunt's Dogs

Three dogs were euthanized after two young girls were mauled.

The Mansfield News Journal reported that a woman took her two nieces, ages 2 and 3, and her three Rottweilers for a walk in the woods when the 3-year-old took off running.

When the girl ran, one of the dogs attacked her. The two other dogs then began attacking the 2-year-old girl, the newspaper reported.

The aunt, whose identity was not released, was bitten when she attempted to intervene.

The children were so badly injured, they had to be airlifted to the Akron Children's Hospital.

Neighbor Bonni Remy said she was shocked to hear of the attack because the dogs were never vicious.

"We have actually never had any issues or problems with the dogs," Remy said.

Remy said she used to allow her dog, Sophie, play with the rottweilers.

"They just lay and watch and Sophie likes to harass them," Remy said.

Remy said that she did not mind allowing Sophie to run near the other dogs.

"They've never been vicious animals," Remy said.

The girls remained hospitalized; the 3-year-old girl in critical condition and the 2-year-old was listed in fair condition.

Authorities said that it was up to the dog warden to file any charges.
