A man was sentenced to 30 years in prison and will be forced to register as a sex offender for trying to have sex with a teenager.
Investigators said that Patrick Mahoney was charged with knowingly attempting to entice a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Mahoney pleaded guilty to the charges.
Mahoney also admitted to trying to engage in sex acts with another undercover officer's 4- 8- and 11-year-old children, and he said he previously had engaged in sexual activity with a minor family member beginning when she was 6 or 7 years old.
Mahoney was arrested earlier this year after trying to arrange a sexual encounter with an undercover officer who he thought was a 15-year-old girl.
When Mahoney was arrested, he possessed condoms, erectile dysfunction medication, lubricant, synthetic narcotics and other drug paraphernalia, investigators said. A search of Mahoney's laptop also uncovered child
The judge recommended that Mahoney be placed in an institution which provides a sexual offender treatment program or sexual offender management program. Mahoney was also sentenced to be under court supervision for 15 years following his prison term during which time he will have to register as a sex offender anywhere he lives, works or goes to school.
