Ashley Young was ordered to be held on $1 million bond.

An Athens County woman was sentenced Wednesday to a life prison term for killing her stepdaughter.

Ashley Young, 26, of The Plains, entered an Alford plea to five counts, including murder and tampering with evidence.

In an Alford Plea, the defendant does not admit the act, but admits that the state has enough evidence to convict. The Court then finds the defendant guilty.

The judge sentenced Young to a life in prison with a chance for parole after 20 years.

Prosecutors said Young killed her 4-year-old stepdaughter by physically assaulting her and then tried to conceal evidence of the crime. Young left to buy Percocet from a local drug dealer after her stepdaughter was killed, according to attorneys.
