A Tarlton man is facing 23 animal cruelty-related charges.

More than 50 dogs were seized from Jonas Beachy's property on Oct. 1.

The Pickaway County Sheriff's Office and rescue groups inspected the property after receiving tips of a suspected puppy mill, The Circleville Herald reported.

The dogs were found in cages, some with permanent injuries to their paws. Ohio SPCA investigators found piles of feces that measured 1 foot high beneath the cages.

Beachy was charged with cruelty to a companion animal, which is a misdemeanor.
