Authorities said a person was shot Sunday afternoon in an apparent "road rage" incident.
The incident occurred around 3:35 p.m.at East William Street near U.S. 23, according to Delaware Police.
Police officials said the first officer who responded found one victim had been shot in the head.
Officers also found the man suspected of the shooting still at the scene. Investigators recovered a weapon and took one man into custody.
The incident appears to have sparked by road rage between a driver of a pick-up and a motorcyclist that began outside of the city.
"That just doesn't happen here in Delaware, it's a nice, quiet town and you just don't hear about stuff like that here," said resident Brenda Herring.
Herring was taking her 10-year-old step-daughter home when they came across the scene.
"We thought they were working on the bridge at first, and then we saw the crime scene tape and news everywhere," she added.
Witnesses said they actually heard gunshots coming from U.S. 23 before both drivers exited off William Street and then pulled over. That's when more shots were fired.
The injuries to the victim did not appear to be life threatening, according to police.
"From what I'm hearing he's very lucky. He was ‘life flighted’ out but he was conscious and speaking so he is very fortunate," said Bruce Pijanowski, Delaware Assistant Police Chief.
The man police arrested was expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
