Police said that a crime is on the rise that could land victims in trouble with the law.

Chillicothe police said that more criminals are stealing license plates.

"In the state of Ohio, you have to have a front license plate on your vehicle," Chillicothe police Sgt. Ron Meyers said.

One pick-up truck owner did not realize that he was targeted until he received a call from police when officers tried and failed to pull over a vehicle with his stolen plates.

Dash cam video shows the driver of the vehicle swerving to elude police and speeding away.

Police warned drivers to check their front and back plates regularly.
