Neighborhood On Edge After Man Allegedly Admits To Sexually Assaulting Child

A 78-year-old man is charged with gross sexual imposition after detectives said that he sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl.

George Mayes appeared before a judge on Tuesday accused of touching a young girl inside of his home in August.

Detectives said that a father told them that his 9-year-old daughter was visiting his sister in her Pataskala neighborhood, when the child went over to Mayes’ home, where he has lived for 45 years.

According to court documents, that is when Mayes allegedly inappropriately touched the young girl inappropriately.

Detectives said that Mayes admitted on two occasions that he touched the same girl over and underneath her clothing.

Mayes’ case is slated to go in front of a grand jury where he could face another gross sexual imposition charge.

Mayes was being held in jail on $75,000 bond.
