Upper Arlington police are searching for a man who they said ran from them during an attempted traffic stop.

Police said that John W. Peterson failed to stop near Kenny and Tremont roads. The traffic stop stemmed from an ongoing investigation into thefts from vehicles in the 4700 block of Reed Road.

Peterson, 21, led police on a short pursuit, which ended with Peterson allegedly striking another vehicle near Ackerman and Defiance roads in Columbus.

Both the driver, identified as Peterson, and a woman bailed from the vehicle. Peterson got away. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken into custody minutes after the crash.

Anyone with information about Peterson's whereabouts was asked to contact the Upper Arlington Division of Police at 614-538-5160.

Police also asked residents to be vigilant and to keep all vehicles locked, parked in well-lighted areas, and to store valuables out of plain sight.
