A plane returned to Port Columbus International Airport shortly after takeoff Sunday.

According to airport officials, a Delta flight left for John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City at about noon, when it struck a bird near the nose gear of the plane.

The plane circled back and landed at the Columbus airport, and the 30 passengers and crew members were put onto another plane.

Officials said that the plane would be assessed before being used again.
