A pilot was reported to be uninjured after a single-person ultra-light plane landed in a field near Rickenbacker International Airport.

According to the West Jefferson post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the plane landed near Rohr Road and Creekside Parkway shortly before 2 p.m.

Pilot Charles Hurt of Lockborne narrowly avoided railroad tracks when he landed.

Law enforcement officials said that a mechanical failure was a possible cause of the landing.

Trooper Cassandra Kocab said that the pilot said he experienced a mechanical failure while in the air.

“He stated that he was approximately 2,000 feet in the air and had just taken off when he experienced some type of prop failure or engine failure,” Kocab said.
