Hilliard police combed through a white car early Thursday morning after they got a tip of someone going through other vehicles at the Motel 6 off of Cemetery road.

Authorities said that person was James Seward.

It was around 3:30 this morning police said a witness spotted Seward, 20,  allegedly taking items from the parking lot.

When police pulled Seward over, they realized he was a guest of the same motel when he allegedly stole the items.

Police searched his room and they said they found a generator, some golf clubs, and even a rifle.

Investigators said it was bold for the man to allegedly steal from people staying around him.

Luis Arceo had no clue his generator was taken right outside his door.   He was staying in town with his crew for some roofing jobs.

Seward, 20, was taken into custody and charged with theft.
