Ohio State University’s undergraduate student body president announced Wednesday that the campus and the Columbus Division of Police have come to an agreement about joint jurisdiction.
According to student Taylor Stepp, the agreement will allow flexibility to respond to crime on and off of campus.
“The agreement enables Ohio State police to assist Columbus police in emergency situations,” Stepp said at a news conference Wednesday evening.
The two police divisions have been considering the idea of joint jurisdiction for a number of months.
Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee formed a task force earlier this year to work on a new safety plan.
One of the items considered in the task force was this mutual aid agreement.
