Jury In Case About Columbus Helicopter Rules Against City In $379,000 Award

A federal jury ruled in favor of a company suing the city of Columbus over the purchase of a used helicopter.

The jury awarded Versatile Helicopters $379,790 from Columbus.

The lawsuit claimed the 12-year-old helicopter had not been properly maintained.           

The company from Canada claimed it had to do major repairs on the helicopter just 30 hours into flight time after purchasing the helicopter.

They paid more than $500,000 for the helicopter through a company in Oklahoma.

Columbus said the sale was for the helicopter as-is, and offered no warranty.

But Wednesday, that federal jury ruled in favor of Versatile Helicopters.

While the ruling is for more than $379,000, the judge in the case may have to reduce the payout.

The amended court filing sought damages up to $250,000 to cover repair costs.
