Police said that thieves are striking at night and stealing from people who may have made a big safety mistake.

Dublin authorities warned residents to lock their car doors after multiple car break-ins were reported near Springburn Drive in one week.

Brian Schatzinger said that Friday night ended just like any other night until he made a costly mistake. When he awoke to get his paper, he found his car's console open and his iPod missing.

"They got an expensive briefcase, laptop, several passports," Schatzinger said.

Thieves took whatever they could get their hands on from Greg Cunningham's vehicle.

"They took some ink pens and change," Cunningham said. "I don't know why they would have taken some pens, but I guess they were more important to them than me."

The crooks also got away with Cunningham's computer. He said that he was beefing up his precautions.

"Making sure my car is locked," Cunningham said. "I take everything out of it that I can."

Dublin police have not made any arrests in connection with the break-ins.
