Mayor Coleman Kicks Off 11-Day Celebration Of Innovation, Design With 'Big Gift'

UPDATED: Monday January 14, 2013 9:06 AM

Mayor Michael Coleman unveiled Columbus' big gift at the corner of Broad and High streets on Thursday.

A 30-foot-tall banner was pulled from the box shortly after 12:30 p.m.

The banner was designed as a kickoff to an 11-day event celebrating innovation and design in Columbus. The event, called idUS, is Columbus' first and will run from Sept. 28 through Oct. 8.

During the 11 days, events include the launch of Columbus College of Art & Design's MindMarket, the Columbus Mini Maker Faire and Innovate Columbus.

According to a press release, the idea was sparked eight months ago and was the brain child of the 200Columbus committee and key business leaders wanting to showcase and celebrate the unique way the city's artistic and scientific sides interact.
