Newark city leaders will not seek an extension of the city's existing grant to remove lead-based paint from low-income households.
The development director said the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development denied the city's request for a 2013 grant.
The program will now end on Dec. 31.
The department said it re-organize and re-evaluate its goals after the grant has expired.
