Benno, one of the Bellefontaine Police Department's police dogs, died after a brief illness.
Benno, a Belgian Shepherd Dog, had been in service for eight years and was involved in a number of drug cases.
The dog had been receiving treatment for about three days before he died at the home of Officer Chris Marlow.
A tribute to Benno was slated for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Mary Rutan Park.
