A man accused of raping a church volunteer was sentenced on Monday to 17 years in prison.

According to officials, David M. Anderson attacked a woman as she made her way to volunteer at church on May 15.

Anderson is accused of driving by the woman multiple times before offering her a ride. He allegedly told the woman that he had a gun before raping her.

A neighbor, who claimed to hear screaming, called police. The victim escaped the vehicle just as officers arrived at the scene.

Anderson was found guilty of rape and kidnapping on Sept. 7.
