An 83-year-old woman said that she was attacked and robbed Monday morning along a walking path at Hoover Reservoir on Front Street.

Ann Lafyatis was walking near the Hoover Mudflats and Boardwalk at about 11:10 a.m. when she said a man who she thought had a gun, robbed her of her keys, money and ID.

Lafyatis told 10TV News that she was able to remain calm despite being robbed because she did not want to be hurt.

She said the man appeared to be in his 60s or 70s and had a piece of rope.

"The guy approaches me and he ties me with it and tied my hands to the railing," said Lafyatis.

Lafyatis added that he was actually polite.

"He says 'I'll call somebody in about 10 minutes to come and get you," she said. "He wasn't vicious or mean, that would have scared me. The more calm I was, the more calm he would be."

She told detectives the man took her car keys, and stole about $40 from her car along with her credit cards. She said getting out of the rope was not hard at all because it was loosely tied.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Galena police, swarmed the area in hopes of catching the suspect, but no one was found.

Detectives said they only have a vague description and are treating this as a robbery.

Lafyatis said she told the suspect to leave the keys in her car so she could get home, and detectives say they did find her keys in her car. She also said the man threatened that he had a gun on him but told her he wouldn't hurt her.

Lafyatis said the crime was not going keep her from doing what she loves -strolling the boardwalk and admiring the landscape.

Detectives said the case remains under investigation.
