High pressure will keep us dry for most of the day today with some sunshine and highs near 90. If we hit 90 today, this year will tie the all-time record for Columbus of forty-nine 90-degree days set in 1936 and tied in 1955. This year currently sits third all-time in Columbus with 48 days.
A strong storm system will bring increasing chances for showers and storms through the evening with showers and storms likely overnight. The Storm Prediction Center has placed central and western Ohio under a SLIGHT risk for severe storms this afternoon and evening. Our main concern with any severe storms will be for damaging winds and large hail, but we can’t rule out an isolated tornado.
Saturday will start off wet with lingering showers and a few storms. Most of the rain should be out of central Ohio by noon. You’ll notice much cooler temperatures this weekend with highs in the low 70s. Sunday will bring just a slight chance for a shower or a few sprinkles, but most of us will stay dry under partly sunny skies.
