DSCC emergency response crews identified the white powdery substance that smoked and caught fire on Wednesday in Whitehall.

Crews said that a small container of phosphorus about the size of a soup can was safely removed and transported to the Columbus Bomb Squad range for proper disposal.

Construction crews installing a gate struck a powdery white substance in the ground along East Broad Street at the Defense Supply Center.

The investigation prompted the closure of Yearling Road shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
