An Ohio State University freshman remained hospitalized on Thursday after being struck by a dump truck while on his bicycle Wednesday.

Police said that 18-year-old James Daniel Hughes, of South Point, Ohio, was struck shortly before 3 p.m. near 146 Woodruff Ave. as a dump truck was either entering or leaving a construction site.

Family members said that Hughes, and honors engineering student at OSU, was still in critical condition on Thursday at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He has a ruptured pelvis and a shattered right leg.

The family member said that Hughes was struck by the front of the truck on his way to class.

The crash remained under investigation.
