Police were searching for the gunman who targeted a woman on the city’s south side Tuesday night.
Detectives said that the woman and a friend met with someone to buy stereo equipment around 9 p.m.
Witnesses said that a robber approached the woman and demanded money. When the woman refused to comply, the robber shot her in the chest before fleeing the scene.
The woman’s friend drove her to a carryout along East Whittier to look for help. The victim was transported to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
A description of the gunman was not immediately released.
