A man accused of recording men and women engaged in sexual activity was found dead on Wednesday after apparently committing suicide.
The body of John W. Hayes was found at Advanced Swimming Pool Systems, located on 17th Avenue near Port Columbus International Airport. Detectives said that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Detectives said that Hayes, a father of two, was an employee at Advanced Swimming Pool Systems and was found by another employee Wednesday morning.
Detectives said that Hayes likely shot himself overnight. Hayes was released on bond on Tuesday night.
Hayes, 39, is accused of videotaping couples engaged in sexual activity in Grandview Heights, Upper Arlington and Columbus.
He was arrested on Tuesday after officers served a warrant at Hayes’ Grandview Heights home for child pornography. They also discovered hundreds of videos apparently recorded through windows without the alleged victims' knowledge.
On Wednesday, detectives revealed some of the cameras used to video tape people. One camera was hidden inside of a clock radio, according to sheriff’s officials.
“It’s very easy to hide in your hand as you’re walking through the neighborhood and just put it up against the window and videotaped people” said Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott.
Two alleged victims have been identified and interviewed. Investigators said that they were working to identify approximately 50 other victims in Grandview Heights, Upper Arlington and Columbus.
Investigators said that they were continuing to search for people who Hayes allegedly video recorded.
Sheriff’s officials said that 45 people have called wondering if Hayes had videotaped them.
Anyone with information is asked to call the task force at 614-525-3448.
Investigators said that video appeared to be taken from the following locations:
