Police said that a security camera captured a retired doctor engaging in a sex act with a 15-year-old boy.
According to police, the case came to light after Samuel Bracken Jr. called his security camera company to erase tapes.
A police report stated that Bracken, 73, told detectives that he needed to install video cameras because he had boys from the Big Brothers program stay at his home and he wanted to prevent thefts.
The police report said that he admitted to police about the sex act that was caught on tape. He said, “He had forgotten about the cameras and called the security company, because he feared the sexual encounter between him and the victim had been recorded.”
Bracken told police that there were only two sexual encounters with the boy, and the “second one just happened.”
Mike Powers, who runs Powers Investigations, the company Bracken hired to put cameras inside his home, said that he saw the video.
“The sheets were over the person, and he pulled the sheets back, Powers said. Powers said that when his company remotely accessed the video, there was no question that something inappropriate had happened in the video.
“Clear. It’s clear beyond a reasonable doubt,” Power said.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio declined to say how long Bracken had been a volunteer but did say that his background check was clean.
The agency said it terminated his participation after learning of the allegations, and the alleged victim was not a participant in the Big Brothers program.
According to the police report, Bracken told detectives that he was heavily involved in the Big Brothers program and routinely had 14- and 15-year-old boys stay overnight and during the weekends with him.
Bracken’s attorney said that he questioned the statements that his client made to police and said that there were two sides to the story.
