A man driving on a rural Ohio road says a naked, severely burned woman with a rope around her neck arose as he passed and threw herself toward him, pleading for help and crying in agony.

He told the Times Recorder (http://ohne.ws/OsbCW1 ) the scene Sunday northeast of Zanesville was "something out of a horror show."

Police are trying to piece together what happened.

The motorist told the newspaper the 29-year-old woman was burned from head to toe and her hair was gone. He said she screamed that people were trying to kill her. He stopped and placed her on some grass, covered her with a blanket and tried to talk with her.

He called 911, and she was flown to a hospital, but died Tuesday.

Authorities haven't named any suspects.
