Investigators were searching for the man they said shot and killed a Victorian Village woman on Wednesday evening.
Carolyn Cummins was found shot to death in the basement of her Highland Street home around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses said that they saw someone running from the scene of the crime.
Police charged Jason L. Stubbs, 35, in connection with the slaying. Stubbs was charged with murder and was not in police custody.
Anyone with information about Stubbs whereabouts was asked to call Columbus police at 614-645-4730.
Police said that Cummins, 73, had a reputation for opening her home to those in need. But neighbors said the house on Highland Street was constant source of conflict.
A neighbor, who requested anonymity, described frequent and loud arguments in the street that often ended when police showed up.
"Weekly there's cops here so I don't know what the feud was," a neighbor said.
The circumstances surrounding Cummins' death were under investigation.
Police would not divulge details about a possible motive, but Cummins' family members said that they would not stop until her killer was brought to justice.
"I'm so numb, but whoever did this, we're coming," said Cummins' daughter, who did not wish to be identified. "The police and God know what you did."
10TV did some digging and learned in the past seven years, Cummins filed 20 offense reports with Columbus police.
Most recently, in March, she told officers that someone stole prescription drugs out of her house.
