An off-duty employee interrupted a robbery in progress on Monday night.
Witnesses said that a man walked into the UDF store, located along North Wilson Road, and grabbed a drink from the cooler before jumping the counter and grabbing for the cash register before 10:30 p.m.
According to witnesses, an off-duty clerk saw the incident from the parking lot and ran inside to help. The clerk grabbed the alleged would-be robber and held him until authorities arrived.
Medics were called to the scene to treat the suspected robber, who became ill when he was taken into custody. Police detained a second man, though his connection to the foiled robbery was not clear.
The identities of those involved were not immediately released. No injuries were reported during the incident.
