The American Red Cross transported 16 Columbus City Schools students displaced by an apartment fire to school for the first day.

The American Red Cross said that 53 people were living in an emergency shelter located at the Feddersen Recreation Center on Dresden Street after a fire at the Summit Park Apartments on Monday evening.

Fire investigators were still searching for a cause of the fire that damaged more than 30 units and left some residents with only the clothes on their backs.

The Red Cross was working with the displaced families to replace clothing and find new homes.
