Friends and family gathered Saturday to remember a young girl whose life was ended a week ago.
Jada King was found dead in the garage of a Hillsboro home on August 11. Investigators said that her uncle, Matthew Pierson, confessed to the slaying.
Deputies said that they believed the young girl was murdered with a hand-held grass cutting tool.
The news of her brutal slaying shocked many and devastated loved ones, who remembered the child as a little angel. Family and friends gathered at a small park in Wilmington to honor the memory of the young girl.
“She was just beautiful,” said great aunt Rachel Bailey. “This is unbelievable. I just can’t put into words this tragedy.”
Jada’s grandmother, Tina Williams, was among those who shed tears, still wondering why this happened.
“She was precious, my precious pumpkin head, I sing to her every night,” Williams said.
Pierson, 18, was in jail on $500,000 bond and faces 15 years to life in prison.
