Man Accused Of Killing Girlfriend With Hatchet Jailed On $2 Million Bond

A man accused of killing his girlfriend with a hatchet and then setting a fire to cover up evidence was in jail on Friday on $2 million bond.

John A. Smith is accused of killing Darlene Hart, who was found dead at her Parkwood Avenue home on July 14.

Fire officials said that there was evidence of a fire at her house.

Smith, 48, was arrested in New York after he allegedly confessed to a minister, who then called police.
